Government: Coronavirus cases in Macedonia rise to 13


The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Macedonia increased to 13 peoples after four more citizens were tested positive for the infection on Friday, the government confirms as local media reported.


The health condition of all patients who have been tested positive is stable, excluding one case from the western city of Debar that has serious complications, The Macedonian news agency MIA quoted health minister Venko Filipce as saying during a news conference.

The first case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID 19) in Macedonia was confirmed on February 27.

Macedonia on Friday sealed off two regions in the country's west, near the border with Albania, after four people tested positive for the new coronavirus.

According to health minister Venko Filipce, two municipalities in the watern part of Macedonia - town of Debar and Centar Zhupa - have now been declared in a state of crises.

Macedonia's government has announced earlier this week the temporary closure of schools and universities for two weeks, as part of efforts to try to contain the spread of new coronavirus. Also sport activivties are prohibited, cafe bars should be opened only till 18h. The goverment according to health minister Filipce is also considering closing the shopping malls through the country.
