Over 1,5 million passengers traveled through the Skopje and Ohrid airports in the first nine months of the year, a 12-percent increase compared to the same period in 2016, TAV Macedonia said on Monday.
The airports’ concessionaire said the number of fights operating in period January-September was also up by six percent.
The most frequent destination from the Skopje airport is Istanbul (12.4%), followed by Zurich (8.7%), Vienna (6.8%), Basel (5.1%), Malmo (4.6%) and London (3.9%).
Wizz Air is the leading airline with a share of 57.5 percent, ahead of Turkish Airlines (8.5%), Austrian Airlines (6.8%), Germania (5.1%) and Pegasus Airlines (4.5%).
“The rise of airline traffic resumes in 2017, especially following the introduction of new flights from the Skopje airport and the seasonal flights to Ohrid in the second half of the year. We are expecting to finish the year with a solid growth in the number of passengers”, said TAV Macedonia general manager Alper Ersoy.
Five new destinations were introduced from the Skopje airport over the course of 2017 – Budapest, Rome, Malta, Vaxjo and Doha – while the Katowice flight was launched from the Ohrid airport.
