Famous Macedonian influencer and makeup artist Maja Janeska (known as Maya Mia) has been found dead. Originally from Ohrid, Janeska lived in Tanzania for more than a decade and spent the time in South Africa before her death.
There were no details about the death for the time being. At first, African media only reported on the posts on social media of her close acquaintance, the famous musician Ommy Dimpoz.
"RIP my love" - it says in the posts on social networks.
Police later confirmed that Maja Janeska was found with a gunshot wound to the head on Friday, reports a South African portal.
Maja Mia was in Skopje some time ago and published photos with several politicians.
As the portal writes, at the time of her death, Janeska was in a relationship with Kyle Phillips, co-CEO of a cigarette company.
- The police do not consider Janeska's death suspicious, but family and friends told News24 that they cannot believe she took her own life.
African police, meanwhile, said they were investigating Janeska's death and at this time law enforcement are not treating the case as suspicious.
“Police received a call about a person alleged to have committed suicide at the Bassonia estate. Upon arriving at the given address, police found a woman with a gunshot wound to the head in a bedroom. A gun lay next to her. The death was confirmed by a doctor," police spokesman Masondo said.
The portal reports that her boyfriend was at the house during the incident.
Maya Mia was a famous influencer and had about 1.2 million followers on Instagram (maya_mia_y). She was recently in Macedonia and has published photos with several Macedonian politicians.
