Alexander the Great monument removed from Skopje airport

Macedonia's new government removed the statue of Alexander III of Macedon over night. The move comes after the removal of the sign “Alexander the Great” from the airport building.

The Government decided last month to rename the airport into International Airport Skopje as an act of good will in relations with Greece.

In addition, the namesake motorway has been renamed into “Friendship”.

The statue was granted 2011 by the turkish owner of the Macedonian airports, TAV Macedonia.
