The number of tourists in Macedonia increased by an annual 11% to 287,503 in the first five months of 2017, the country's statistical office said on Wednesday.
The number of domestic tourists rose 13.2% year-on-year to 98,227 in the January-May period, whereas the number of international visitors rose 9.9% to 189,276, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of overnights spent by tourists in Macedonia in the review period increased 11.8% year-on-year, reaching 599,341.
In May alone, the total number of tourists in Macedonia rose 11.7% year-on-year to 96,334, with 65,285 of them being foreign tourists.
Out of the total number of foreign tourists who visited Macedonia in May, 31.3% came from Turkey. Bulgaria followed with 6.1%, Serbia came in third with 5.6%, and the Netherlands was fourth with 5.4%.
