Macedonia's tourist numbers rise in Jan-Aug


The number of tourists staying in Macedonia increased by an annual 15.8% to 714,474 in the first eight months of 2017, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.

The number of domestic tourists rose 6.6% year-on-year to 283,656 in January-August, whereas the number of international visitors increased 22.7% to 430,818, the statistical office said in a statement.

The number of overnights spent by tourists in Macedonia in the review period increased 11.3% year-on-year, reaching 2.15 million.

In August alone, the total number of tourists in Macedonia rose 20.4% year-on-year to 188,758, with 90,469 of them coming from abroad.

Out of the total number of foreign tourists, who visited Macedonia in August, 23.3% came from Turkey.
