Lake Prespa water level continues dramatic drop
The water level in Lake Prespa and Lake Ohrid continues to drop. The situation in Prespa is particularly dramatic, the current water level is 85 centimeters below the September average. An earthquake measuring 4 degrees according to European Macroseismic Scale is felt Saturday in Bitola and its surrounding. The earthquake is also felt in Resen and Ohrid with 3 degrees according to European Macroseismic Scale. The Seismological Observatory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje registered Saturday the earthquake at 11:55h., 140 kilometers south of Skopje in the neighbouring Greece.
Parts of Macedonia under orange heatwave alert
Parts of Macedonia, especially the upper Vardar river valley and the region of lakes Ohrid and Prespa, are under an orange heatwave alert, with a very high UV solar radiation index of 9. Temperatures will reach up to 40 degrees Celsius in these areas. Premiere of film dedicated to the preservation of Lake Prespa
United Nations Development Program presented a documentary on the environmental situation of Lake Prespa which, the agency says, has greatly improved over the past 15 years.
