Kavadarci leads among Macedonian cities by the reduction in its unemployment rate, which is currently at 9,8 percent, more than twice below the national average, said Blagojcho Borisov, head of the Kavadarci Employment Bureau.
Borisov said that there were more than 8.760 unemployed persons registered in Kavadarci in August 2006, and now, 10 years later, that number stands at 3.733, about a 1.000 of whom are considered passive job seekers.
“It is evident that the unemployment rate has dropped sharply, as a result of the active measures introduced by the Employment Agency and the support of the Government. These numbers improve by the year, and we can all be satisfied with the outcome”, said Borisov, adding that 307 people were hired by the tax cutting Employing Macedonia program in 2015 and 44 more were hired once it resumed in 2016. Additional support is offered through active measures that give job seekers grants to set up their own business. Job prospects in Kavadarci, which has several major metal companies, were greatly improved with the opening of the large Draexlmaier car parts plant in 2013.
