The Macedonian basketball team is off to a good start in the 2017 European Championship qualifiers, after beating underdogs Luxembourg 89:75 in Kavadarci. Macedonia set the final score in the first quarter, which it won 30:13 owing to its superior three point game.
The remainder of the match was more even, with Luxembourg holding its own, and even reducing Macedonia's advantage to nine points in the third quarter. But, our team would have none of it and with stronger defense play managed to stop the visitors.
Vojdan Stojanovski scored 28 points and his brother Damjan added 13 and were the best home team players. In the other group match, Hungary beat the United Kingdom 96 to 77. Our next game is away, against the United Kingdom, on 3 September.
