Kotzias prepares for visit in Macedonia

The exact date for the visit of the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias to Macedonia is still being determined, MFA says, adding that it will happen in the last 3 days of August.

Although the main topic of the meetings will be the name dispute, more serious steps are not expected until the completion of local elections in the country.

Meanwhile, new problems for Prime Minister Tsipras are triggering the demand of senior party members for the removal of two ministers, including Nikos Kodzias. They openly accuse Kotzias of conducting a conservative foreign policy, which has no point of contact with the left, as well as the absence of any results in relations with Skopje and tackling the Cyprus problem.

In anticipation of the announced visit to Kotzias and the expectations to defuse the name dispute, the Greek media recall that as many as three ministers in the government of Tsipras had no problem with the naming of the country by the constitutional name in 2008.

Protothema recalls that incumbent Education Minister Konstantinos Gagroglou, before the NATO summit in Bucharest, along with other 200 Syriza officials, asked Athens to recognize Skopje under its constitutional name, the Republic of Macedonia. Three more top officials and current lawmakers left behind his position.

In the media, he added that the Minister of Education believes that the goal of education should not be in the function of creating a national identity, disregarding the Greek constitution according to which the state must provide education in accordance with the development of national and religious awareness, - Sitel TV.
