Lavrov says foreign factors endangered Macedonia’s statehood

Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Macedonia faces a “threat to its statehood on the part of opposition parties with foreign backing”. Speaking at a joint press statement with Croatian Foreign Affairs Minister Davor Ivo Stier, Lavrov said that the political crisis in Macedonia can only be resolved with respect for the Macedonian Constitution.

“We discussed the situation in Macedonia, which is a cause for concern”, Lavrov said during the joint press statement. During the political crisis in Macedonia, Russia several times blamed the United States and Western European countries of interfering in our domestic political issues.

President Gjorge Ivanov is currently on a visit to Moscow, and is scheduled to meet President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday.
