The ban on Serbian music in the neighbouring Republic of Macedonia entered into force on Friday night.
Serbian music may not be played on local radios and TV stations. All Macedonian TV channels and radios observe the ban and, besides global music hits, they play Croatian, Bulgarian, Bosnian and Albanian music.
The ban was imposed after the Serbian association of music authors refused to accept the conditions on the playing of Serbian music in Macedonia. According to the association, Macedonia is obliged to control the observance of the ban.
The reason for the dispute is the tariff regarding copyrights which was reduced by 50% by the Macedonian Ministry of Culture.
The disputes on copyrights affected Macedonian music as well. This is why the oldest Macedonian festival in Valandovo will not be held on Saturday.
