Seven plays at Skupi international theatre festival


The 11. international theatre festival Skupi, held under motto "For a Healthy Spirit", will include seven plays from the same number of countries.

The festival opens with play "The House of Bernarda Alba" by Federico Garcia Lorca, directed by Qendrim Rijani, and produced by "Andon Zako Cajupi" theatre from Korce, Albania, in Skopje-based Suli An on Thursday.

The festival also includes plays from Serbia, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Russia, Israel and Iran.

"We will try to maintain the tradition and promote theatre companies that have not toured in Macedonia before", said festival selector Senko Velinov.

According to him, there are no Macedonian plays on the programme because they can be seen at theatre stages across the country, as well as annual Macedonian theatre festival "Vojdan Cernodrinski".

The traditional Grand Prix award for the best play will be presented at the closing of Skupi 2017.
