Qatar Airways inaugurates Doha-Skopje flight

Qatar Airways on Monday inaugurated the first direct flight from Skopje to Doha after a 144-seated Airbus A320 landed at the Alexander the Great Airport in the Macedonian capital. The new route will operate four times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The latest service of Qatar Airways will connect Macedonia with over 150 international destinations on the global map of flights.

Ehab Amin, chief commercial officer at Qatar Airways, and Vukica Krtolica-Popovska, Macedonia's Ambassador to Qatar, were welcomed at the Skopje airport right after landing by TAV General Director Alper Ersoy, Minister of Transport and Communications Goran Sugareski and Qatar's Ambassador to Macedonia, Hassan Bin Abdullah Zaid Al Mahmoud.

"Our new, four-day service to Skopje is an anticipated addition to our global network of routes. It will allow us to connect both business passengers and tourists to and from Macedonia," stated Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker.

Qatar Airways is one of the most respected brands worldwide in the world of airlines, according to Alper Ersoy. He said Doha was going to be very attractive for the citizens in Macedonia to visit the city as tourists, or to establish businesses all the while serving as a gateway to 150 destinations around the globe.

Furthermore, the start of the Qatar Airways Cargo's service to the Skopje airport is expected to stimulate an increase in Macedonia's areal trade exchange by connecting the country with the main importers in northeast Asia, according to TAV Macedonia.

"The company's first service from Macedonia offers to the Macedonian passengers a better access to Australia, home of more than 200,000 Macedonian Australians," reads the press release.
Also, TAV Macedonia says it has recorded a 6% increase in the number of passengers in the first six months of 2017 compared to the same period last year.
