Nimetz in Skopje will meet with top state officials regarding the name dispute

There will talks held between Macedonia and Greece and UN Special Envoy, Matthew Nimetz, who will be staying in Skopje until July 4th and will be meeting with state leaders about possibilities for resolving the name dispute.


The UN Secretary General Office spokesman, stated that Nimetz has come to Skopje at the request of the Macedonian government, in order to discuss various ways to make progress in the UN mediated talks and to find a mutual and acceptable solution to the name dispute.

The statement added that Nimetz will be leaving for Athens at the invitation of the Greek government immediately after his visit to Skopje.

The mediator, Nimetz, in an interview with the Greek newspaper “Real News” in late May, this year, said that resolving the name dispute should be high on the new Government’s agenda and emphasized that resolving this problem could help resolve other problems in the region.
