Cannabis oil available in pharmacies across Macedonia without prescription

We have fulfilled another significant promise to improve the healthcare system in the country. As of today, cannabis oil will be available for purchase without prescription across pharmacies in Macedonia. This oil will be with a less than 0.2 percent THC level, and it will available with two different concentrations of CBD­ 5 and 7 percent, the Health Ministry informed on Monday. “With this new product, we met the requests of the citizens and the expert community, whose remarks, opinions and suggestions we heard in public debates on this subject and we implemented them in a legal solution in March this year. Macedonia’s “Johnson Matthey” among top 100 companies in Southeast Europe

“Johnson Matthey” is the only company from Macedonia among the Top 100 companies in Southeast Europe in 2016.

The annual ranking of “SeeNews” puts “Johnson Matthey” as the 17. biggest company in the area, climbing seven spots compared to the 2015 ranking.
“Impressively, Macedonia’s entry, the local subsidiary of UK chemicals specialist Johnson Matthey, achieved a 12% jump in per capita revenue, climbing one position further to number four, well above its eighth position two years ago. This underlines the importance of the recently attracted foreign investments for the small country that is not EU or NATO member”, says “SeeNews”.
Komercijalna Banka is Macedonia’s best-ranked bank in the Top 100 SEE banks at 45, while “Triglav Osiguruvanje” is placed 71. in the insurance sector.

Time Travel: Skopje Antique Shops Are Full of Objects that Have Long Been Forgotten

Musical instruments, folklore costumes, uniforms, jewelry and various items and sundries which date back more than 100 years are arranged on the shelves in antique shops in the Old Bazaar, which are some kind of time machines that will take you on a journey in the 19th century through the days of the former Yugoslavia, until the independence of Macedonia.

Antique shops in the Skopje Bazaar, despite for collectors of antiquities, are as well very attractive for tourists who mostly buy traditional Macedonian costumes. But part of the owners of antiques complained that people come in their shop just to take a look at the objects and they joke that they will earn more if they collect money for the entrance.

Fitch Affirms Macedonia at BB, Outlook Negative

Global rating agency Fitch said on Friday it has affirmed Macedonia's long-term foreign and local currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) at 'BB', with negative outlooks.
The issue ratings on Macedonia's long-term senior unsecured foreign and local currency bonds have also been affirmed at 'BB', the rating agency said in a statement.

The Country Ceiling has been affirmed at 'BB+' and the short-term foreign and local currency IDRs at 'B'. The senior unsecured short-term local currency issues have also been affirmed at 'B'.
Macedonia's ratings are supported by a track record of credible monetary and macro-prudential policy that has maintained longstanding stability of its exchange rate peg.
Government finances also perform marginally better than the median of 'BB' category peers. However, GDP per capita is below the median of 'BB' category peers, and governance is weak.

Macedonian soldiers fired warning shots at Macedonia-Greece border

Macedonian soldiers have fired several warning shots in the air at the country's border with Greece to deter a group of migrants from crossing it illegally.
According to local media, one migrant was arrested and turned over to the police, while others returned to the territory of Greece.
The Macedonian Army said in a press release that the incident happened when one of its patrols detected a group of migrants illegally crossing the border near the regional road Gevgelija-Moin. 
According to this, the patrol vocally warned the group several times, but was ignored. Several warning shots were then fired in the air, which prompted the group to head back to Greek territory, Beta agency reported on Wednesday, citing MIA agency.

Name of the church and of the country to remain unchanged: Macedonia's Orthodox Church

The Archbishopric Council of the Macedonian Orthodox Church - Ohrid Archbishopric (MOC-OA) reaffirmed its position that the name of the MOC should not be changed and that the name of the country should not be changed as well.
This decision was reached after the MOC Council held its annual session on Friday and Saturday in a monastery in the village of Kalista in Struga.
The bishops adopted a resolution in which the MOC position of 26 December 2017 is upheld, namely 'not changing the constitutional position of Macedonian language, preserving the unitary character of Macedonia and protecting the Macedonian national identity," said MOC spokesman, Bishop Timotej.

Macedonia cancelled again Public call for financial support for Low-Cost Airlines

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has again cancelled the public call for financial support of airlines, released on September 13.
Minister Goran Sugareski told a press conference on Wednesday that Wizz Air was the only company to submit a bid, which does not correspond to the criteria of the public call.
In the bid, Wizz Air is planning introduce four destinations from Ohrid-based airport “St.Paul the Apostle” as of August 2019, which goes against one of the tender criteria.
“The call clearly reads that the airline is obliged to introduce two flights from the Ohrid airport as of January 2019, and additional two flights within a year from the agreement’s signing. Wizz Air has offered to introduce all four destinations in August 2019. Therefore, the commission established that the conditions of the public call have not been met and recommended that the call is cancelled. This leaves me with no other option than to cancel the procedure,” said Minister Sugareski.

As scholars and authors we wish to take issue with the distortion of the Prespa ‘agreement’ in some quarters, and portrayal of opponents as nationalist and extremists.
The agreement does not serve the needs of Macedonia or Greece. It shows no respect for international law, human rights and democratic principles.
An agreement trying to define political, historical and cultural boundaries between “classical Macedonia” and (would be) North Macedonia is a bizarre undertaking in the 21st century. The construction of identities is not for governments. Macedonia is subjected to arbitrary international engineering against the will of the people. With little public support a highly polarized atmosphere deepens internal divisions. The asymmetric ‘deal’ will not lessen regional tensions as only the weaker (Macedonian) side was forced to compromise, to force (North) Macedonia into NATO – itself in an identity crisis.
