Several forest fires active across Macedonia

Active forest fires have been reported Wednesday in two villages in Makedonski Brod, western Macedonia, at a site in Caska in central Macedonia, in the vicinity of Prilep, in the region of Tetovo and near a village in the municipality of Petrovec near Skopje, the Crisis Management Center (CMC) says.

There's no threat of the forest fires spreading, it adds noting that firefighting teams have been deployed on the ground.

Wildfires in other part of Macedonia have been put under control, Nadica Vckova of the CMC told a news conference.

"Once again, we are calling on the citizens to be very alert when working or spending time outdoors and to abide by the ban preventing them from walking around in forests," she said adding that the ban foresaw fines.

The situation on the ground is being monitored and relevant institutions are coordinating their efforts to contain the blazes, according to her.

Starting today, Israel is helping Macedonian authorities to put out forest fires in the region of Skopje after the country has sent two air tractors.

On Sunday, the government declared a 30-day state of emergency in the regions of Makedonski Brod and Caska.
