More than 120 runners will participate in the Ohrid marathon on Saturday

More than 120 athletes from across the world will participate in the 31st Ohrid Athletic Marathon, from the monastery of St. Naum at the southern end of lake Ohrid, to the city of Ohrid.

The race is scheduled for Saturday, and 20 women are among the participants. The race is held in honor of Macedonia's independence from Yugoslavia, which is celebrated on September 8th. Late coach from Ohrid Vlatko Dimitrov is also honored in the race, which he helped re-establish.

The marathon was initiated in 1976, but was stopped in 1993. It was again established in 2004. Kenyan runners Abel Kibet Rop and Rebecca Korir hold the records, with 1:34:58 for men and 1:48:12 for women.
