Macedonia gripped by heatwave: people advised to stay indoors from 11am to 5pm

Pregnant women and chronically ill persons over the age of 60 to be exempted from work while construction workers to avoid outdoor operations from 11am to 5pm are some of the recommendations of the Ministry of Health that were adopted by the government late Thursday due to heatwave that gripped Macedonia.

Today the weather will be sunny, very hot with temperatures up to 42C, accompanied by weak to moderate southwest winds. UV index will be 9.

The general recommendations for protection from high temperatures include avoiding direct exposure to the sun and open spaces from 11am to 5pm and kindergartens are called to keep children indoors and avoid physical activity during the peak heat hours.

Citizens are advised to remain indoors (preferably in air-conditioned premises) as much as possible. If required to go out, people should rest frequently under shades, wear light clothes, sunglasses and hats.
