Number of passengers drops in road transportation, on the rise in air transport

In the first quarter of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015, the number of passengers recorded in road transport dropped by 5.2%, in public transportation by 8.4% and by 54% in rail transportation.


At the same time, the number of passengers handled in airports rose by 9.4%, statistics show.

In comparison with the third quarter of 2016, the number of passengers recorded in public urban and suburban transport increased by 28.3%, in road passenger transport it dropped by 1.7%, in rail transport by 1.8%, while in air transport it dropped by 28%, according to the State Statistical Office of Macedonia.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015, the quantity of goods handled in freight road transport rose by 9.1%, whereas in rail transport it decreased by 2.1% and in air transport by 7.8%.

Compared to the third quarter of 2016, the quantity of goods carried in freight road transport declined by 36.7% and in air transport by 14.0%, while it increased by 5.6% in rail transport, statistical data show.
